MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE RUN

Can my dog participate?

Yes.  You may run or walk with the 5k with a dog.
What if my dog cannot finish the 5k?
Your dog should be in shape to run or walk 3.1 miles.  New environments and crowds can be stressful to some animals so please take that into consideration.
Watch for fatigue.  If your pet is struggling.  STOP and ASK for help.
You know your dog best!  If your dog cannot run/walk 3.1 miles its best you participate with us but leave your furry friend at home.
Are there separate awards for runners/walkers who participate with a dog?
No.  Awards will be given to participants who finish at the top of each award category regardless of participating with a dog or no dog.
What items are being accepted at the 5k for donations?
  1. While the Animal Shelter takes many items for donations, here are some of the items that are highly recommended:
  2. Dog/Cat food, wet or dry
  3. Dog/Cat treats
  4. Cat litter (Paper Cat Litter Only)
  5. Dog/Cat toys (non-absorbent). No stuffed toys please.
  6. Bleach
  7. Pine-Sol

Can I participate without my pet?
Yes.  Pets are not required for you to participate in the run/walk.
What are the requirements for my dog to participate in the 5k?
ALL dogs must be leashed at all times.
Retractable leashes are not permitted.  No exceptions.  Any 5k participant with a dog on a retractable leash will not be permitted to participate.
All leashes must not be longer than 6 feet.
All dogs must be current on vaccinations and get along well with other dogs and people.
Dogs in dog strollers must still be leashed in case they decide to make a run for it! (or jump out)
Can I carry my dog?
Yes.
What should I bring for my dog the day of the race?
You should consider bringing water, extra dog waste bags, a harness, leash, treats/snacks (to reward your pup of a job well done!).

Will extra dog waste bags be on-site?
Yes.
What if my dog misbehaves?
Animal Control Officers will be on-site the day of the race.  If your dog shows signs of aggressive or disruptive behavior you may be asked to not participate.  ACO’s and event staff reserve the right to make all final decisions on participating pets.
What if it rains?
The race will go on if it rains or shines.  Refunds are not offered as all registration fees are considered a donation to the Taylor Animal Shelter.
How can I support the Taylor Animal Shelter if I cannot participate in the 5k?
Donations are always accepted at the TAS and will be accepted on the day of the 5k.
Ask the TAS staff for alternate sponsorship opportunities.
Can I bring an animal that is not a dog?
No. We discourage bringing animals other than well-behaved dogs to the 5K. We cannot assume that all dogs at the race will respond well to other animals. However, this event benefits ALL ANIMALS at the Taylor Animal Shelter!
Something came up and I cannot make it to the race. Can I get a refund or transfer my registration to someone else?
No, all registrations/sales are final.  Please know that your registration fee is going to benefit the Taylor Animal Shelter directly.  Other persons who would like to participate will need to register separately.
Do I need to pay a registration fee for my dog?
No.  Your registration fee includes your dog's registration but we do limit no more than one (1) dog per registered participant.
Do runners/walkers with pets start at the same time?
No.  Any runners/walkers who are participating without a pet will start at 9:00 a.m. and runners/walkers without a pet will start at 9:30 a.m.
How many dogs can I participate with?
There is a limit of one (1) dog per registered participant.
How much time do I have to complete the 5k course?
