Played youth sports at St. Alfred Catholic School in Taylor, where she played for two Catholic League Hall of Fame members, her father Earl (basketball) and Bob Wilkerson (softball).

On the court, she captained her team as a senior, setting records for steals and assists.
On the diamond, her outstanding pitching helped Hillsdale win its first league title and then turn into a consistent league title contender.

Recorded a 50-7 pitching record over three seasons in softball.
Named the Dearborn Female High School Athlete of the Year.
Named to the Catholic League HOF in 1988.
As a youth, she also played softball in the Taylor Fast Pitch League, going 14-0 with four no-hitters in 1983.
After her playing days ended, the longtime teacher coached at Dearborn St. Alphonsus, Birmingham Marian, Riverview Gabriel Richard and Wyandotte Roosevelt.
