Senior Center Reopening

Center reopens to open with restrictions

The center is excited to reopen to the public on Monday, April 12. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there will be restrictions in place.

The senior center will be open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We will be closed on Thursdays. Regular business hours will be from 8:30 -11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m. (We will be closed for cleaning from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. each day.)

This schedule is subject to change.

If you or any member of your party are ill, or have any symptoms related to the COVID-19 virus, do not come to the senior center. All persons entering our facility should perform a self-health assessment before entering. If you have a fever, cough or shortness of breath, we ask that you do not enter.

Admission to the center will be by appointment only. Appointments must be made 48 hours in advance through the main telephone number at the center (313-291-7740). Capacity, face mask and social distancing measures will be in place for the safety of visitors and staff.

Current policies will be an adjustment for visitors, but they will be strictly enforced for everyone’s safety:

  • Front doors are the only entry/exit point
  • Sign in is required per visit
  • Face masks are required at all times
  • Sanitizing stations will be located throughout the facility
  • Please social distance
  • Bring your own water or coffee – no cart service will be available
  • Limited activities allowed. Pool room (two-hour appointments), ping pong (two-hour appointments, Mondays and Wednesdays only), card playing (two-hour appointments) and fitness room (two-hour appointments) permitted
  • Kitchen service is not available
  • No plastic bag collection will be available
  • Buses are available for grocery and doctor’s visits – space is limited
  • Dial-a-ride will return for classes only
  • No birthday parties or monthly gatherings
  • Line dancing and TaiJiFit will be at the Sheridan Center in Heritage Park
  • No field trips are planned at the moment.

Shuttles to Meijer, Walmart and Kroger

We currently have a scheduled shuttle run to Meijer on Mondays, Walmart on Wednesdays and Kroger on Fridays with limited seating. Due to the short time frame for shopping and spacing on the bus, these runs will be limited to 4 people a day. This is a first come, first served basis.  The shuttle will be leaving the Senior Center at 7:30 a.m. sharp and the return time will be between 9:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Same day reservations are unavailable, so please call a minimum of 48 hours ahead to schedule your ride at 313-291-7740.

The bus driver will be wearing a mask. Each patron would be able to be separated by at least 6 feet while on the bus. In keeping social distancing, the first pick up will sit in the back of the bus, the next pick up would sit in the next furthest seat and so on. Returning home, loading the bus would be the same process. The bus will be cleaned after each run.

Transportation for Doctor Visits

With a 48-hour notice, we take Taylor seniors to and from Taylor-based medical appointments. This is a very important part of our transportation program. This service is provided on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at no charge during the shutdown.  Appointment times need to be scheduled between 9 am -12:30 pm.  At this time we can only accommodate one per day.

Picks up Taylor seniors at their home and brings them to the center free of charge. See our Activities Page to see all you can do once you get here! We also offer a different shopping trip each day: Meijer (Mondays), Walmart (Wednesdays), and Kroger (Fridays).

Friends of the Ford Senior Center

All of our activities take money, so we formed a fund-raising group called The Friends of the Ford Senior Center, which is a 501(c)3 organization. This allows us new ways to raise funds for the center and opens many new doors for better discounts for our senior programs. If you would like to become a member of this organization, please stop by the center and join. The fee is $12 per year, or $100 for a lifetime membership.

Hall & Pavilion Rentals

The Ford Senior Center offers both hall and pavilion rental. With a full working kitchen, the banquet hall affords many possibilities for catered affairs. For a more casual gathering, the outdoor pavilion provides shelter, lighting, and a sound system in an open-air setting overlooking the beautiful grounds. Ask about special rates for seniors and Taylor residents. For more details on hall and pavilion rentals, call 734-287-1633 or call 734-286-1655.
